The Dallas Cowboys made a no-brainer roster move on Monday afternoon that should appease the franchise's fan base.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Cowboys and kicker Brandon Aubrey agreed to a record-setting history extension.
“Brandon Aubrey and the Dallas Cowboys reached an agreement today on a deal that will make Aubrey the highest-paid kicker in NFL history,” Schefter reported on X/Twitter.
“The four-year extension makes Aubrey the first kicker to earn $7 million per year and receive $20 million guaranteed, per Todd France and AJ Stevens ofAthletesFirst."
After reporting Aubrey’s contract news, Schefter broke down the 31-year-old’s accomplishments in Dallas, making it clear why the Cowboys are content with keeping him around for the foreseeable future.
“Brandon Aubrey, since arriving in Dallas: three-time Pro Bowler, three-time All-Pro, 112/127 on FGs, 88.2% FG percentage, First K ever with three 60+ yard FGs in a season, First K with three 50+ yard FGs in a game, First K with 10+ 50-yard FGs in three seasons,” Schefter stated.
Simply put, there’s no question that Aubrey’s extension was well-deserved. There’s a legitimate argument to be made that the Notre Dame product is the most reliable kicker in the NFL.
It’s gotten to the point where many believe the Cowboys only need to advance to their opponent’s 40-yard line to give Aubrey a chance to put points on the board for the franchise.
At the end of the day, Aubrey has come a long way since starting his NFL career in the USFL.
