Why Lane Kiffin is trolling Tennessee football (again) alongside Tee Martin
Lane Kiffin can't seem to get Tennessee football out of his mind or off his social media account.
His latest trolling strategy centers around hiring former Vols quarterback Tee Martin to his LSU coaching staff.
On April 20, Kiffin posted a video on X from the LSU weight room. In it, Martin is wearing LSU gear and talking to a player whose face isn't visible on camera. Kiffin walks up and interrupts their conversation.
"Hey, quit sitting around. Get to work," Kiffin says to Martin. "He's got to go to Knoxville, Tennessee, bro."
In January, Kiffin landed UT edge rusher Jordan Ross out of the transfer portal. Ross was a five-star recruit out of high school and projected to start for the Vols in the 2026 season. Instead, he went to LSU, where Kiffin had just been hired away from a playoff-bound Ole Miss team.
The only text in Kiffin's X post was tagging @Vol_Football, Tennessee's official football account.
It's the latest attempt by Kiffin, the ex-Tennessee coach, to poke at his former employer and the Big Orange fan base. He's found new material for trolling at LSU this offseason.
Kiffin will return to Knoxville when LSU plays Tennessee at Neyland Stadium on Nov. 21.

In March, Kiffin hired Martin as an LSU offensive analyst. He had been on the Baltimore Ravens staff since 2021, most recently as quarterbacks coach.
Martin was a Vols assistant coach in 2019-20 under coach Jeremy Pruitt. But he's best known as Tennessee's quarterback on the 1998 national title team, which is why there's a statue of Martin outside Neyland Stadium.
Martin likely will help coach quarterback Sam Leavitt, who LSU swiped from the transfer portal in a competition with Tennessee. Of course, Kiffin couldn't do that recruiting job without trolling the Vols. He flew to Knoxville, where he posted a video from the airport and reportedly met Leavitt.
The date was notable, at least to Kiffin.
On Jan. 12, 2010, Kiffin left Tennessee for Southern Cal in a chaotic episode that produced an infamous news conference, a burned mattress and endless stories from a crazy night.
On the anniversary of that night, Kiffin took to social media to troll Tennessee as he tried to put the finishing touches on signing Leavitt. Kiffin shared a recap of his exit with the message: "Ironic 16 years ago today."
Many UT fans roll their eyes at Kiffin. After all, he's coached five other teams since being with the Vols for one season. And Ole Miss fans have more reasons to hate him than UT fans.
All that will come into focus in the 2026 season. LSU plays at Ole Miss on Sept. 19, two months before Kiffin's return to Neyland Stadium.
