Will Red Sox-Phillies game be rained out Thursday? Forecast ‘doesn’t look good’

Update: The Red Sox released the following statement at 4:46 p.m.: “We are consulting with Major League Baseball officials and multiple weather services to determine the status of tonight’s game. Rain showers are expected in the Fenway area over the next couple of hours with conditions improving later tonight. With the Phillies not scheduled to return to Fenway Park this season, every effort will be made to play tonight’s game.”

BOSTON — There’s a chance the Red Sox on Thursday will have their second rainout of this homestand.

Boston and Philadelphia are scheduled to play their three-game series finale at 6:45 p.m. at Fenway Park, but rain is in the forecast.

“So far, I’ve heard it doesn’t look good,” interim manager Chad Tracy said after the Red Sox’ 3-1 win on Wednesday. “I hear that a lot. So that’s usually what I hear — and then it could look great tomorrow. But we’ll come in maybe a little later, just be ready to play and see what happens.”

The National Weather Service forecast about tonight’s weather in Boston: “The rain could be heavy at times. Low around 49. Northeast wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.”

The precipitation potential is 93% at 6 p.m., 95% at 7 p.m., 97% at 8 p.m., 87% at 9 p.m., 77% at 10 p.m., 74% at 11 p.m. and 72% at midnight, according to the National Weather Service forecast.

The Phillies aren’t scheduled to return to Fenway Park during the 2026 season. But the two teams have mutual off days May 21, June 11, July 23, Aug. 20, Aug. 27, Sept. 14 and Sept. 21.
