The Pittsburgh Steelers still have no answer on what's to come next for Aaron Rodgers, who served as the franchise's starting quarterback last season. And with the draft approaching and no starting signal caller solidified, they need to make a decision on how they're going to approach the NFL Draft.
With the uncertainty surrounding the quarterback room in the Steel City, it would make sense for the Steelers to make a move during the draft at quarterback. With the top choices that the Steelers know will be on the roster currently, Will Howard, who is unproven in the league, and Mason Rudolph, who has yet to find sustained success as a starter, you need to have another option in the room, you know, that could provide some competition and an alternative option.
Because there doesn't appear to be an answer coming soon on Rodgers, waiting could be costly.
Rodgers has pondered retirement in previous off-seasons and stretched out his decision last year before finally deciding to play a season with Pittsburgh, helping lead them to the playoffs. He has already played 21 seasons in the league, and it's largely within the realm of possibility that he hangs up his cleats. The Steelers have been in touch with Rodgers but have not gotten a definitive answer.
"We've had some great communication with Aaron," Steelers GM Omar Khan said. "Nothing's changed, but it's all been positive and good. I said this to you guys in March, he knows how we feel about him, and we know how he feels about us."
If the Steelers do make a move on a quarterback in the draft, the top-reported candidates at the moment appear to be Alabama's Ty Simpson, Miami (FL)'s Carson Beck, and Penn State's .
Aaron Rodgers' status remains uncertain as he has not provided a definitive answer about his future with the team.
The current quarterbacks on the Steelers' roster include Will Howard and Mason Rudolph, neither of whom has established themselves as a reliable starter.
Given the uncertainty surrounding Aaron Rodgers and the current QB situation, it is likely that the Steelers will consider drafting a quarterback.
