Wisconsin men's hockey has secured a significant transfer by signing forward J.J. Wiebusch from Penn State. This move comes as the team aims to rebuild after losing several key players to the NHL.
The Wisconsin Badgers men's hockey team landed their biggest transfer to date.
Penn State forward J.J. Wiebusch is staying in the Big Ten, according to Brad Elliott Schlossman.
Schlossman's transfer portal tracker now includes both Wiebusch and Dylan Compton to Wisconsin. Compton transferred from Northeastern earlier in the week.
After losing a boatload of key players to the NHL, head coach Mike Hastings knew he had to regroup. Landing Wiebusch is exactly what the Badgers needed, and now he'll have a few opportunities to play against his former team.
Wiebusch is a Wisconsin native who spent his first two seasons with the Nittany Lions. He comes to Madison as a junior with 69 career points in 77 games played. Of those 69 points, he has 30 goals and 39 assists.
In his four meetings against the Badgers this season, Wiebusch had a goal and an assist. He's played Wisconsin eight times in his career and has a total of three points against his new team.
