Wisconsin transfer guard John Blackwell is visiting UCLA on Tuesday as he considers his options. He is a five-star prospect and is also being pursued by Alabama, Arizona, Duke, Illinois, and Louisville.
Wisconsin basketball transfer John Blackwell is set to visit UCLA on Tuesday, according to On3's Tracy Pierson.
UCLA is reportedly one of six schools in contention for the now-former Badger, along with Alabama, Arizona, Duke, Illinois and Louisville.
Blackwell committing to two of those contenders, Illinois or UCLA, would be notable for the Badgers, given their annual place near the top of the Big Ten Conference. His visit to the Bruins is a major update in that regard.
247Sports lists Blackwell as a five-star transfer prospect. He's specifically ranked as the No. 2 overall player in the portal and No. 2 shooting guard.
The former three-star recruit elevated his game in 2025-26, averaging 33.8 minutes, 19.1 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.1 steals per game, while shooting 43% from the field and 39% from 3-point range. He declared for the NBA draft while entering the portal earlier this month, though that next-level jump may wait until after the 2026-27 campaign.
Wisconsin has major shoes to fill in its starting lineup, with both Blackwell and point guard Nick Boyd gone. The program will need another major portal splash, similar to the respective additions of John Tonje and Boyd during the past two offseasons.
As of April 13, there appears to be a good chance that Blackwell laces up against the Badgers and their transfer-heavy lineup next season.
