On the afternoon of this Tuesday (5), Palmeiras officially announced its departure from Libra (Brazilian Football League).

The decision was made shortly after the agreement reached by the clubs in the bloc with Flamengo.

Throughout the statement, the Verdão club highlighted the points that led it to leave Libra.

Palmeiras says the bloc "drifted away" from its initial purpose when it was formed in 2022, and that "selfish attitudes — if not predatory ones — made the group’s cohesion unfeasible."

In yet another "message" to its red-and-black rival and to the bloc as a whole, the São Paulo club said that "Libra ultimately drifted away from its original purposes, becoming, in practice, a heterogeneous group dedicated exclusively to dealing with individual interests."

Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras announces that it formally decided this Tuesday (5) to withdraw from LIBRA (Brazilian Football League), due to disagreements related to the role currently played by the bloc.

Since the initial talks in 2022, the club has actively and constructively participated in discussions aimed at building a unified league, convinced that such an initiative would represent a significant step forward in the organization and strengthening of national football.

It is undeniable that the bloc achieved accomplishments, including the current agreement for television broadcasting rights. Throughout this process, however, selfish attitudes — if not predatory ones — made the cohesion necessary for the creation of a shared management and governance model unfeasible.

In this way, LIBRA ultimately drifted away from its original purposes, becoming, in practice, a heterogeneous group dedicated exclusively to dealing with individual interests.

Leaving LIBRA does not imply Palmeiras joining any other representative association. At this moment, the club chooses to follow the next steps in the possible structuring of a league, conducted within the institutional framework of the CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation).
