Ticket prices for the FIFA World Cup have skyrocketed to unprecedented levels, with one group stage match commanding a higher price tag than the Super Bowl.
In the buildup to the first World Cup hosted on American soil in more than three decades, resale prices have sparked fierce debate, with even U.S. President Donald Trump acknowledging he wouldn't shell out for tickets given their astronomical cost. An early game between Portugal and Colombia has made headlines for all the wrong reasons, emerging as one of the priciest group stage tickets in tournament history.
The cheapest available seats for the match, scheduled for June 27 at Hard Rock Stadium, are hovering around $2,500 — noticeably steeper than what the average fan paid to attend Super Bowl LX at Levi's Stadium back in February, as per The Mirror US.
The ticket prices for the FIFA World Cup group stage match between Portugal and Colombia are reportedly higher than those for the Super Bowl.
The surge in ticket prices is attributed to the high demand and the significance of the World Cup being hosted in the U.S. for the first time in over 30 years.

Several seats closer to the field are being listed for eye-watering sums, with one ticket reportedly offered for a staggering $5.75 million on a secondary ticketing platform.
Portugal vs. Colombia is an especially hot commodity largely due to the presence of Portuguese icon Cristiano Ronaldo, who may be making his final World Cup appearance this summer.
The fixture is also anticipated to be a fiercely competitive contest, with both nations currently ranked inside the global top 15.
Nevertheless, Trump maintained that he wouldn't be spending big to attend any World Cup games. Upon learning that it would cost fans over $1,000 to attend the USMNT's opener against Paraguay in Los Angeles, he told the New York Post: "I did not know that number.
"I would certainly like to be there, but I wouldn't pay it either, to be honest with you. I haven't seen that, but I would have to take a look at it.

"If people from Queens and Brooklyn and all of the people that love Donald Trump can't go, I would be disappointed, but, you know, at the same time, it's an amazing success," he added. "I would like to be able to have the people that voted for me to be able to go."
During an appearance at the Milken Institute Global Conference in Beverly Hills last week, Infantino defended the United States' implementation of dynamic pricing. "We have to look at the market," he explained.
"We are in the market in which entertainment is the most developed in the world, so we have to apply market rates.
"In the US, it is permitted to resell tickets as well, so if you were to sell tickets at the price which is too low, these tickets will be resold at a much higher price," he claimed, referencing an estimated 500 million ticket requests for this tournament.
"You cannot go to watch in the US a college game, not even speaking about a top professional game of a certain level, for less than $300. And this is the World Cup."
