World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler shares wise advice to golf parents

As the high school sporting world continues to evolve and money becomes an increasingly important factor, it doesn't hurt to step back and look at what actually makes high school sports great.

Today's athletes seem to remember fonder times when money wasn't quite as involved, and parents weren't quite as involved in pressuring their children.

The No. 1 golfer in the world, Scottie Scheffler, is one of those who looks back fondly on his time growing up because of how his parents handled his rise.

"I had two great parents who never pushed me to be great at golf," the four-time major champion said ahead of the PGA Championship. "They never wanted me to be anything other than the best version of myself and that included having a good attitude. There were more important things than my golf game, and they did a really good job guiding me along and helping me when I needed help, but not pushing me to be anything other than a good student or good person.

"It wasn't always about golf with them. I would encourage parents today to support your kids and have them do their best."

Now a father of two, Scheffler has been regarded as one of the world's best golfers for some time now. He's won the Masters twice and is entering this year's PGA Championship with three straight second-place finishes.

A lot of that success has come from some simple advice his mom gave him as he was starting to break onto the national golf scene.

"My mom always did one thing that was interesting was she never asked me what I shot," Sheffler said. "She said that 'if you want me to know what you shot, you'll tell me and I won't have to ask you what you shot.'"
