AJ Lee appears to have reached the end of her current WWE run, at least for the time being.
According to a WWE source speaking to WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select, Lee’s creative is effectively done at this point. There is hope internally that she will return for future programs and matches, with SummerSlam cited as a possible target, but nothing is confirmed.
Lee made her return to WWE in September 2025, joining husband CM Punk in a rivalry against Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch before breaking off into a standalone feud with Lynch for the Women’s Intercontinental Championship.
She defeated Lynch to capture her first singles WWE title in over a decade at Elimination Chamber, then successfully defended the title against Lynch at WrestleMania 42 in what also marked her first WrestleMania appearance since WrestleMania 31.

Ahead of WrestleMania 42, Lee spoke exclusively with The Takedown on SI about what drove her decision to come back, pointing to the response she received from fans at meet-and-greet events during her time away as the moment she realized the appetite for her return was still very much alive.
“I knew that coming back was the right decision because of my fans. I was getting these lines that were legitimately seven hours long, and that’s when I realized, ‘oh, they’re still here,'” Lee said. “There’s still this hunger here. This support only comes with wrestling.
“It only comes with this really loyal fanbase who watched me from day one, were a part of the mission statement of underdogs for the win and stuck with me, and were waiting for me to come back. And to be able to give them a title run and a Mania match has been incredibly meaningful.”
With her current creative chapter now closed, the door for a future return remains open even if there is nothing on the horizon at this stage.
