I’m just proud of me and I want to thank everyone at the club who gave me this amazing opportunity to be here today.”

That humility may not last unnoticed for much longer. Liverpool are not the only club monitoring Diomande, and a strong World Cup could widen the queue considerably.

For now, though, the winger’s focus remains fixed on RB Leipzig. Liverpool may admire him from afar, but Diomande appears determined to ensure the next chapter of his career is earned properly rather than rushed.
