The New York Yankees aren't helping Ryan Weathers out very much.
The offseason acquisition hasn't helped his cause perfectly on the mound, but he could at least get a bit of support.
Instead, the Yankees' bats go quiet when Weathers pitches.
Weathers has now made four starts this season. And specifically while he remains on the mound, the Yankees have yet to score a single run in their half-innings at the plate.
Tuesday night, for example, Weathers went five innings, and the Yankees' only run of the game came in the eighth inning.
He's the only pitcher in baseball this season with this predicament so far, according to Baseball Reference's Katie Sharp:

This is one of those stats that pops up for a different pitcher every year and is always hard to explain. There isn't an obvious correlation between the pitchers that lack run support.
It even happens on teams with strong lineups, like the Yankees. Some nights, things just don't go well for the bats.
The Yanks probably didn't help their cause on Tuesday by sitting Ben Rice and Cody Bellinger because they were facing lefty Reid Detmers, despite Detmers actually giving up more damage per at bat in his career to left-handed hitters.
Weathers also get hit around pretty fiercely by the Angels, which maybe ruined the overall vibes for the Yankees right from the outset.
Still, when pitchers aren't getting run support, they feel they have to be extra precise, and that can sometimes backfire.
