PGA Championship: Golfâs best thought Aronimink would be easy. They were wrong
PGA Championship at Aronimink: Golf's best struggle with unexpected challenges.
The Yankees are facing a tough situation with Giancarlo Stanton as they struggle offensively, losing three straight games. Despite leading in home runs and runs scored, several regulars are underperforming at the plate.
BALTIMORE â A lot of fabulous pitching and a few hot hands at the plate covered up a Yankees storyline that became more noticeable while they were losing three straight in Milwaukee last weekend and two of three this week in Baltimore.
While itâs true the Yankees lead the majors in homers and are first in the American League in runs, they have three regulars hitting below .200 and another batting .203 more than a quarter of the way through the season. You probably know the culprits: Ryan McMahon, Austin Wells, Jazz Chisholm and Trent Grisham.
Wednesdayâs 7-0 loss at Oriole Park hammered this alarming trend home.
With a chance to win a series, the Yankees were shut out on one hit by the Orioles, who have the second-highest ERA in the league. The Birds received six shutout innings from a starting pitcher who began the day with a 4.83 ERA, right-hander Kyle Bradish.
âWeâve got to do a better job when we get pitches out over the heart of the plate, or we get some guys on base,â Aaron Judge said on a day the Yanksâ only hit was a fifth-inning double by Chisholm. âWeâve got to get some action going.â
During their week on the road, the Yankees scored eight runs in their five losses - none, three, three, two and none by game. In the lone win, five of their six runs came in one inning.
âWe didnât play our best,â manager Aaron Boone said. âOutside of the big inning (Tuesday), we didnât quite mount enough offensively. Weâve got to get some guys going. Weâve got to get some guys on track.â
The article indicates that the Yankees received bad news regarding Giancarlo Stanton, although specific details about his condition are not provided.
The Yankees are struggling offensively, with three regular players hitting below .200 and suffering a recent shutout against the Orioles.
The players hitting below .200 include Ryan McMahon, Austin Wells, Jazz Chisholm, and Trent Grisham.
The Yankees lost 7-0 to the Orioles, managing only one hit in the game.

In addition to the big slumpers picking it up, what the Yankees really could use is a healthy and hot Giancarlo Stanton in the middle of their lineup.
They got that when Stanton was 2-for-4 in each of the Yankeesâ first five games, but he batted .186 with two homers in 25 strikeouts in 76 plate appearances in his next 19 games before going on the IL.
Friday will mark three weeks since Stantonâs injury, a right calf strain that occurred while he was just jogging from first to second base on a walk.
A walk!
The Yankees were so sure that this was nothing serious that they didnât bother getting an MRI for three days. When they finally did and the results showed a low-grade strain, Stanton went on the 10-day IL thinking he might make a very quick return.
That hasnât happened and Wednesdayâs update didnât add optimism.
After doctors compared Stantonâs latest MRI to his initial scan, Boone provided an update during his post-game interview:
The calf strain hasnât completely healed.
âItâs still lingering there,â Boone said. âNot any worse. Heâs upped what heâs been able to do, but I donât think it allows us to clear him to really start ramping up the running yet.â
Stanton, 36, has been hitting in a batting cage, but he canât play if he canât run the bases.
âYou always want a former MVP and future Hall of Famer in your lineup, especially add another righty to the string of lefties weâve got,â Judge said. âBut no need to rush.â
Judge is right about playing the long game with Stanton. If the Yankees rush him back, he could be right back on the IL.
The captain is right about the lineup leaning far left, too. Judgeâs big right-handed bat has produced an AL-best 16 homers, but four of their six left-handed-hitting regulars are among the slumpers. Theyâre getting a ton from Ben Rice and a lot from Cody Bellinger, but not much from Chisholm, Grisham, McMahon and Wells.
âWeâve got a lot of good guys here that are gonna step up,â Judge predicted before bringing up Stanton again. âWe definitely miss Big G, not only for what heâll do in the lineup, but his presence here in the clubhouse. Weâll get him back soon.
âIf he just gets right, weâre gonna be good to go.â
