The New York Yankees enter every season expecting to be one of the best teams in baseball.
So far in the 2026 MLB season, they are.
The latest power rankings put out by MLB.com affirm that: The Yankees rank No. 2 on the list.
"The Yankees had a rough series in St. Petersburg over the weekend, but it should be said that despite their losing streak, they’re hardly floundering: Six of their seven losses have been by one run, and they still have the best run differential, by far, in the American League," writes MLB.com's Will Leitch.
There's only one team ahead of the Yanks: the Los Angeles Dodgers.
"The Dodgers are off to a blistering start with an MLB-best 11 wins in their first 15 games, but similar to last season they still have an NL West rival close on their heels with the Padres sitting just 1 1/2 games back in the division," Leitch writes.
The top-five in the power rankings also includes the No. 3 Braves, No. 4 Brewers and No. 5 Padres.

From the AL East:
- No. 12 Blue Jays
- No. 17 Orioles
- No. 22 Red Sox
- No. 26 Rays
That's as encouraging as anything for the Yankees. Their division was supposed to be super tough. Right now, though, the other teams aren't living up to expectations.
New York would certainly like a Dodgers rematch from the 2024 World Series in 2026. And if their pitching keeps up, maybe the Yankees would be able to swing the result the other way.
