There definitely seems to be a feeling around Major League Baseball of teams moving on from guys this year, especially veterans, much earlier than usual. The Toronto Blue Jays did that once again earlier this week, designating Eric Lauer for assignment.

Lauer has had some struggles throughout his career, but has mostly been a pretty average left-handed arm.

There have been times when he looks really good and others when he's struggled a bit. He owns a career 4.34 ERA, posting a 6.69 ERA in eight appearances for Toronto this year. The Yankees' pitching lab typically finds a way to get the best out of guys like the 30-year-old, which is why Sports Illustrated linking the two sides on a potential deal after he was designated for assignment makes a lot of sense.

“The Yankees have certainly seen Lauer in action in the American League East. He made two appearances against the Yankees in the playoffs last season. The Yankees have a track record of taking veteran hurlers and turning them into the best versions of themselves. If there is a team out there that could turn Lauer around, it would be the Yankees,” Patrick McAvoy of SI .
