After a hot start to the season, the New York Yankees just snapped a massive cold streak, with a win against the Los Angeles Angels after losing five in a row. Aside from Ben Rice and Giancarlo Stanton, no one is hitting well.
If they want to help jumpstart their team, getting another hot hitter could help. Sports Illustratedās Ethen Hutton proposes that the Yankees do that by making a deal with the Pittsburgh Pirates for their high-octane slugger, Oneil Cruz.

The trade would look like this:
Yankees get: SS/OF Oneil Cruz
Pirates get: OF Jasson Dominguez, MLB No. 72 overall prospect RHP Carlos Lagrange, NYY No. 6 prospect OF Spencer Jones
āThe Yankees are in win-now mode coming off back-to-back postseason exits, falling to the Toronto Blue Jays in the ALDS last season. New York has expressed interest in a deal for Cruz, which could present a high-risk, high-reward target for the team. His offensive tools add a lot of firepower to one of the top batting rotations in the majors and heās yet to reach his full potential, which could be realized under manager Aaron Boone. The return is steep, but the upside is undeniable as the Yankees look to claim their first pennant since 2009,ā Hutton wrote.

So far this season, Cruz is hitting .355/.429/.645/1.074 with three doubles, five home runs, 16 RBI and seven stolen bases in 16 games. After a rocky start, Cruz has been on fire, showing no signs of his massive cold streak of last season.
Cruz is also incredibly cost-effective. Heās set to make $3.3 million this year, and still has two years of team control after that.
Cruz would replace Anthony Volpe at shortstop, and bring another big bat to the lineup. Once Aaron Judge and Cody Bellinger get hot, getting Cruz could give the Yanks arguably have the best set of hitters in the American League.
