Zailey Conroy and Will Elder have been named the first Hillsdale County ISD Spring Sports Athletes of the Week. Conroy excelled in track events, while Elder received the Daily News Choice award.
HILLSDALE COUNTY — Camden-Frontier sophomore Zailey Conroy and Reading sophomore Will Elder were named winners in the first round of Hillsdale County ISD Spring Sports Athlete of the Week.

Conroy captured the readers’ choice honor, while Elder earned the Hillsdale Daily News Choice award, leading a field of standout nominees from across the county.
Conroy continued her strong start to the spring season with dominant performances across multiple sprint events. The sophomore, who was named a preseason athlete to watch, won eight events to open the year. She was undefeated in both the 200-meter and 400-meter dashes, posting season-best times of 27.74 seconds and 1:03.17, respectively. Conroy also recorded two wins and one second-place finish in the 100-meter dash. In field events, Conroy added a personal-best long jump of 13 feet, 2 1/2 inches at the Edon Invitational, finishing second overall.
Elder delivered standout performances in two sports for Reading. On the track, he placed in the top five in the 100-, 200- and 800-meter races, including a fourth-place finish in the 200 at Hanover-Horton and a third-place finish in the 800 at Homer.
He posted personal-best times of 24.77 seconds in the 200 and 2:35.08 in the 800. Elder also played a key role in Reading’s relay success, helping the 4x100, 4x200 and 4x400 teams earn wins. He served as the lead runner on the winning 4x400 relay at Hanover-Horton.
On the baseball diamond, Elder leads Reading in several offensive categories, batting .471 with eight hits, 10 runs scored and seven stolen bases. On the mound, he has one win and one save while striking out 10 batters in 8 2/3 innings.

Reading sophomore Will Elder won the Hillsdale Daily News Week 1 Athlete of the Week honor for the 2026 spring sports season.
Sophomore Zailey Conroy won the first spring sports reader's choice Athlete of the Week award.
Runner-up: Kherington Ladd, Hillsdale softball
Ladd starred both in the circle and at the plate during the opening weeks of the season. She logged more than 25 innings as a pitcher, earning a win with a 12-strikeout performance against Morenci. Her 38 strikeouts lead all Hillsdale County pitchers. Offensively, Ladd totaled nine hits, two RBIs and eight runs scored. On the bases, she was a perfect 13-for-13 in stolen base attempts.
Third place: Bryn Rusk, Jonesville softball
Rusk highlighted her early season with a perfect game in an 18-0 win over Vandercook Lake, striking out nine batters in four innings. She has 15 strikeouts in three pitching appearances. At the plate, Rusk added four hits, including two doubles, drove in one run and scored seven times.
