Indiana Fever sign guard duo to WNBA training camp contracts

TL;DR

The Indiana Fever have signed guards Megan McConnell and Kayana Traylor to training camp contracts ahead of the 2026 WNBA draft. Traylor, previously with the Minnesota Lynx, has an impressive collegiate background, including a Final Four appearance with Virginia Tech.

With the Indiana Fever roster filling out as the 2026 WNBA draft arrives, the team has signed guards Megan McConnell and Kayana Traylor to training camp contracts.

Traylor joins the Fever after spending time with the Minnesota Lynx and after previous international stints in France, Turkey, and Israel.

Originally drafted No. 23 overall in the 2023 WNBA draft by the Chicago Sky, Traylor began her collegiate career at Purdue, where she totaled 221 assists over the first two years, which made her only the sixth Boilermaker player in school history to total 100 assists in their first two seasons.

After three seasons in West Lafayette, Ind., the 5-foot-9 guard transferred to Virginia Tech, where she averaged double-digit scoring in her two final collegiate years and helped lead the Hokies to their first-ever Final Four appearance.

Earlier this year, Traylor participated in Athletes Unlimited, averaging 8.1 points and 2.5 assists per game while shooting 44.2% from the field.

As for McConnell, she has a family connection to the Indianapolis sports scene, as she is the sister of Indiana Pacers guard TJ McConnell.

McConnell played collegiately at Duquesne, where she was the 2025 Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year, a 2024 and 2025 All-Atlantic 10 First Team honoree, and a two-time Atlantic 10 All-Defensive Team selection. The 5-foot-7 guard ended her career leading the program in all-time steals (370), assists (660), and triple-doubles (4).

McConnell made her WNBA debut for the Phoenix Mercury on June 3, 2025, but suffered a season-ending injury after 13 minutes of play. This past offseason, McConnell played in Australia for the WNBL's Bendigo Spirit, averaging 11.2 points, 3.9 assists, and 6.2 rebounds per game.

It is worth noting that training camp contracts are at the league minimum salary, non-guaranteed, and don't impact the cap unless the player makes the standard roster.

If either Traylor or McConnell does not make the standard roster, they could also end up as the Fever's two developmental players, a new caveat created under the collective bargaining agreement. This would mean they would remain inactive for most games, but still be able to practice with the team and potentially be inserted into the standard roster if needed.

According to the team's press release, Traylor will wear No. 4 and McConnell will wear No. 16.
