The Los Angeles Lakers' odds to win the NBA Finals have plummeted to 300-1 following injuries to key players and consecutive losses. Previously, their odds were 30-1 before injuries to Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves worsened their situation.
The Los Angeles Lakers' misfortunes continue to pile up and their odds to win the NBA Finals consequently continue to plummet. Before Friday, the Lakers were 30-1 for the title, but a major injury to Luka Doncic lengthened them to 100-1, before another major injury to Austin Reaves lengthened them further to 120-1. Now, after consecutive losses to the Dallas Mavericks and Oklahoma City Thunder, Los Angeles is a distant 300-1 to win the championship this season.
Speaking of Oklahoma City, the Thunder continue to approach odds-on title status, moving from +135 to +120 in the last week. The Denver Nuggets (+950 to +900) and Cleveland Cavaliers (16-1 to 15-1) also saw their odds improve slightly week-over-week.
The San Antonio Spurs had their own injury scare when Victor Wembanyama left Monday's game against the Philadelphia 76ers with a rib contusion. The injury is not thought to be serious, but the Spurs still saw their odds lengthen from +450 to +550 potentially as a result. Wembanyama needs to play 20 or more minutes in one more game in order to be eligible for All-NBA teams and awards, an important caveat given he was the massive favorite for Defensive Player of the Year before his injury.
San Antonio is still one of the largest championship liabilities at BetMGM, but the Lakers are actually the largest, especially after many public bettors piled on the longer odds following Doncic's injury. The Nuggets garnered the most handle (17%) at the sportsbook over the same time period.
