Real Madrid superstar refuses to panic despite Bayern defeat: ‘We’re still in it’
Real Madrid were beaten 1-2 at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium by Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League quarter-final first leg.
It was a difficult night for the team as a whole, but Andriy Lunin made one thing clear after the final whistle that the tie is far from over.
With Thibaut Courtois still sidelined through injury, Lunin was handed the responsibility of guarding the goal in one of the biggest matches of the season.
Facing Bayern Munich in a Champions League quarter-final is never straightforward, and the Ukrainian experienced that first-hand in a game filled with pressure and intensity.
Speaking after the defeat, Lunin acknowledged the scale of the challenge while keeping his focus firmly on the return leg.
“It’s the Champions League quarter-finals. We knew it wasn’t going to be easy. We’re going to give it our all there,” he said.
That sense of belief is crucial, especially given how the match panned out for the team.

Real Madrid found themselves in serious trouble early in the second half, conceding twice in quick succession and suddenly facing a steep uphill battle.
However, Lunin highlighted the resilience shown by the side, particularly their ability to push forward and remain competitive despite the setback.
“We could probably have prevented one of the goals, but the team reacted well. We attacked a lot and we’re still in it.”
At the same time, the goalkeeper did not shy away from pointing out areas that need improvement.
One of the key concerns from the match was how often Madrid were forced onto the back foot, something that could prove costly again if not addressed.
“We knew that at some point we’d have to defend, and if we had the ball, we wanted to dominate the match as well,” he concluded.
It must be noted that Courtois is unlikely to return in time for the second leg, meaning Lunin will retain his place for the match at the Allianz Arena.
