The San Francisco 49ers already know where and who they'll play in 2026, but they won't know when each game will take place until Thursday's NFL schedule reveal.
But the 49ers' schedule has one clear disadvantage over other teams this year: they'll travel the most miles of any franchise. San Francisco will travel 38,105 miles during the 2026 season, which is nearly 4,000 more miles than the second-place traveler, the Los Angeles Rams. The 49ers will also travel nearly 30,000 miles more than the Carolina Panthers, who only have to go 8,740 for their games this seaosn.
There are a few simple reasons the 49ers' schedule is so arduous.
The 49ers, like the Rams, have to play in Melbourne, Australia, which is almost 16,000 miles round-trip from Santa Clara, California. The 49ers also play in Mexico City, which is another 3,600 miles round-trip. Finally, San Francisco travels east twice (to play the Atlanta Falcons and then to New Jersey to play the New York Giants) as well as road games in Kansas City and Dallas. Those add a lot of miles.

This isn't an ideal schedule slate for one of the oldest teams in the NFL. The one benefit, though, is that the 49ers will have one of the second-easiest schedules heading into the season.
We'll see how the travel weighs into how the team plays, though.
