Alabama baseball will have to look beyond its star shortstop Justin Lebron for answers should the going get tough in South Carolina.
Crimson Tide coach Rob Vaughn was unsure of the junior's status following Alabama's 8-3 victory Friday in which Lebron collided with South Carolina's Will Craddock at first base, losing his helmet and falling to the ground before he ultimately left the game.
Lebron, who was a game-time decision entering the game two matchup on Saturday, May 9, will not return to the series, according to the SEC Network broadcast.
A South Carolina team doctor evaluated Lebron for concussion protocol after game one. But after arriving to Founders Park for the second game of the series, Lebron "didn't feel right," the broadcast reported.
Per SEC Network, Lebron stayed in the dugout for "about 10 minutes" before opting to return to the team hotel.
The Crimson Tide's everyday second baseman Brennan Holt will start at shortstop in Lebron's place.
