During her post-match press conference, Sabalenka started by giving credit to Cirstea, making sure not to take anything away from her achievement in what is set to be her final season on tour.
She said: āSheās a fighter. Itās kind of like itās sad to see her leaving because I feel like sheās one of those players thatās fighting no matter what. I felt like she could stay for longer. Itās her choice. We all respect that. I just wish her the best season to finish her career.ā
Sabalenka was then asked about how serious the injury was and explained: āIād say that probably itās like my lower back, connected to the hip, which kind of like limiting me from the full rotation.
āI guess we just going to have some days off. Weāre going to spend it on recovery. Thatās the plan I believe for now.ā
This is not what fans wanted to hear from last yearās Roland Garros finalist, especially with such an important event coming up.

The win has apparently made Cirstea reconsider retirement plans and extend her time in tennis a bit longer.
It often feels like when a player announces their retirement tour, they find an extra gear.
Danielle Collins is the standout example of this trend, and now Cirstea appears to be following suit.
Since revealing that this would be her last year on the WTA Tour, the 36-year-old has won a title in her home country and now defeated the worldās top-ranked player at a WTA 1000 event.
Sheās also had some thrilling contests against players like Naomi Osaka and Coco Gauff, pushing both stars to the limit.
