OAKLAND — The Bishop Walsh boys and Southern girls won to split the teams' tennis match on Tuesday.
The Spartans' boys won 4-1, sweeping the singles and taking two out of three doubles bouts.
Carson Hamelin defeated Charlie Buchanan, 6-2, 6-2, and Mani Vahedi cruised against Andrew SanJulian, 6-1, 6-0.
Southern won the No. 1 doubles match. Shane Sisler/Sean Eiswert beat Harry Vassiliadis/Enoch Zheng, 6-1, 6-1.
The Spartans' Evan Phisko and Nick Wilt downed Killian Crooks and Gibson Shaw, 7-5, 6-1, and Blake Smith and Andrew Wilkins won against Tyler Murray and Brenden Woolslayer, 6-2, 6-3.
Southern's Josh Webber defeated Oliver Odone, 6-0, 7-5, in an exhibition singles match.
On the girls side, the teams split the singles affairs, and Southern took two out of three in doubles to win the match 3-2.
Bishop Walsh's Marina Williams took the No. 1 singles over Ava Hunt, 6-4, 7-5, and Southern's Morgan Spencer beat Hannah Wharton, 6-2, 6-3.
The Spartans also won the No. 1 doubles. Nila Navarrette and Cora Liller won a thriller over El Hershfeldt and Hailey Harvey, 1-6, 6-4, 10-7.
Southern's Lena Hernandez/Hailey Harsh beat Chelsie Martinez/Arianna Carr, 6-1, 6-2, and Kendra Reams/Natalie Bell defeated Grace Nagle/Izzy Griggs, 6-2, 6-2.
Allegany boys beat Moorefield, girls tie
CUMBERLAND — The Allegany boys swept Moorefield, 5-0, and girls drew the Jackets, 2-2, in a rain-shortened match Tuesday.
In boys, Noah Marker beat Marcel Jager, 6-2, 6-0, and Eoin Mowbray defeated Will Kuh, 8-0.
In the doubles, Traeh Grassi/Colten Gary beat Preston Cosner/Jed Blizzard, 6-1, 6-2; Nick Wilt/Evan Phisko bested Brycen Alley/Weston Eye, 8-5; and Rishabh Patel/Lawson Rando edged Levi Williams/David Stonestreet, 9-7.
Names for the Moorefield girls were not provided.
Allegany's Lilly Hillebrecht won No. 2 singles, 7-5, 0-6, 10-2, and the No. 1 doubles duo of Danica Knight and Sully Grassi won 8-6.
Allegany hosts Mountain Ridge on Wednesday and competes in the Bi-County Area Championship the following day that will feature Southern, Northern, Mtn. Ridge, Fort Hill, Bishop Walsh and Allegany.
The boys tournament will take place at Allegany College and the girls tournament will be at Constitution Park starting at 9 a.m.
The final score was Bishop Walsh boys winning 4-1 against Southern girls.
