The Milwaukee Brewers have made the most of their first-round picks over the years, which is pretty impressive when you look at their draft spots. The last time they held a pick within the top five came during the 2016 season.
The front office has done a good job at putting together a big board ahead of the draft and pivoting to other players when other teams select players they are focusing on.
This year, the Brew Crew will need to master their big board because they were awarded the 25th overall pick in the first round later this summer.
Over the last four years, the Brewers have taken position players. Some were college athletes, while the 32nd overall pick from last year, Brady Ebel, was a shortstop from Corona High School in California.
However, Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter believes Milwaukee will shy away from their trend of grabbing position players and take LHP pitcher Mason Edwards out of USC.
"After logging 70.1 total innings in a swingman role over his first two collegiate seasons, Edwards is enjoying a breakout spring. The 6'2", 190-pound southpaw has a 1.35 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 95 strikeouts in 53.1 innings, and he fits the prototypical high-floor college lefty profile with his advanced pitchability."
Edwards is enjoying a breakout spring, working well in his new role as a starter.
The lefty enjoys a three-pitch mix with his fastball, curveball, and changeup. And while he only flashes 95 mph at times, he's still able to miss barrels with a 30-percent miss rate on the pitch last season.
He may not be the biggest name on the board, but with what he has done so far this season, he is certainly worth an advanced look and could potentially be a steal in the first round for the Brewers.
The specific name of the USC left-handed pitcher has not been disclosed in the article.
