Bubba Wallace was leading the NASCAR Cup Series race at Talladega Superspeedway but it went south very quickly. Wallace jumped to the middle lane and received a big push from Ross Chastain; however, the No. 23 car lost control. The 23XI Racing driver was involved in the "Big One," taking him out of the event.
Following the accident, Wallace spoke to the FOX Sports broadcast and addressed the massive wreck at Talladega. While Wallace lost control, it has become a common theme for the Toyota cars in the Cup Series.
“Damn. Nothing to show for in the first stage,” Wallace said. “Obviously, just trying to figure out the strategies stuff. Man, just hate it. Hate it for Xfinity, hate it for our team. Don’t want to have any DNFs; we have two now, so it’s a bummer. We got to figure out how to be pushed better, so I take responsibility on that. We’ll have a good debrief and figure out what we can do to make our Toyotas a little bit better being pushed, and maybe not have that happen. But appreciate Xfinity, we’ll go on to ole Texas and have some fun.”
As seen by Christopher Bell in Stage 2 and Erik Jones in the Final Stage, the Toyota cars struggle when being pushed on superspeedway tracks. Wallace acknowledged such in his interview, foreshadowing what was to come. It is hard to blame the driver of the No. 23 car for the accident, and he hopes for better luck at Texas Motor Speedway this weekend.
