The NFL Draft begins on Thursday, meaning analysts will be up against the clock to make their final predictions for the prestigious offseason event.
NFL.com's Dan Parr is a firm believer that the Dallas Cowboys will complete a trade with the Tennessee Titans to land a national champion linebacker who’s been compared to Chicago Bears legend Brian Urlacher.
“The Cowboys defense cratered in the first year of the post- era, allowing the most points (30.1) and passing yards per game (251.5) in the NFL last season,” Parr wrote last Thursday.
“With two picks in the first round this year -- including one (No. 20 overall) that came from the Packers in the Parsons trade -- it’s time to be aggressive in rebuilding a once-proud unit.”
“I’d like to see Dallas trade all the way up to No. 4 -- the Titans are willing to move down, at least in this exercise -- to get in front of the division-rival Giants and land a new franchise cornerstone in uber-athletic linebacker Sonny Styles, who is drawing comparisons to Pro Football Hall of Famer Brian Urlacher.”
There’s a reason why the consensus is that Styles will be the first linebacker taken in the upcoming draft. The 21-year-old possesses the physicality, lateral quickness/acceleration, jaw-dropping explosiveness, polished tackling technique, reliable coverage skills, and natural instincts necessary to be deemed a generational prospect at the linebacker position.
The Cowboys are targeting a national champion linebacker compared to Brian Urlacher.
The Cowboys' defense struggled last season, allowing the most points and passing yards per game in the NFL.
The Cowboys have two first-round picks, including the 20th overall pick from the trade with the Packers.

Styles finished his collegiate career with 245 total tackles, nine penalties drawn, nine sacks, and one forced fumble with an Ohio State program that went the distance in 2023-24. If the Cowboys want to secure the services of the high-upside defender this week, they shouldn’t hesitate to trade up before it’s too late.
