Soccer and the World Cup, which has matches in Canada, as well as the U.S. and Mexico, brings people together, Beckham says. "Partnering with Stella Artois felt like a natural fit because they’ve always celebrated those moments of connection, of people coming together over something they love," Beckham said. "Soccer is about community and we're tapping into that energy you find in bars and pubs where everyone is watching together and sharing every moment of one of the biggest sporting tournaments on the planet."
With the U.S. hosting 78 World Cup matches in 11 cities, "it’s a huge moment for soccer in the US, but also globally," he said. "The spotlight of the greatest players in the world coming to play in the U.S., Mexico and Canada, will establish even more U.S. based fans of the sport. My ambition has always been to make soccer in the US as accessible as possible, for as many people as possible, and I hope the legacy of the World Cup will continue this."
The London-born Beckham has already played a major part in soccer. After a legendary career that included winning titles in England, Spain, France and in U.S. – he won two MLS Cups playing for the L.A. Galaxy – Beckham brought a new Major League Soccer franchise to Miami.
L.A. Galaxy midfielder David Beckham (23) boots a cross against Seattle Sounders FC forward Steve Zakuani (11) in the second half during their MLS Western Conference semifinal playoff match at Qwest Field in Seattle on October 31, 2010.
He remains a co-owner in the team, which won its first MLS Cup in December 2025 and just watched Inter Miami play its first game in Nu Stadium in Miami (previously it played at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
"I always knew that after my playing days, I wanted to be an owner, it was never about going down the coaching or manager route for me," Beckham said. "Ownership felt like the right path because it lets you build something, and create opportunities for players, for fans, and for communities. I’ve always wanted to help grow the game, and especially in places like the U.S., I saw the potential early on and wanted to be part of that journey."
Inter Miami forward Lionel Messi (10) holds the 2025 MLS Cup trophy with owners Jose Mas, Jorge Mas and David Beckham after defeating the Vancouver Whitecaps FC at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on Dec 6, 2025.

Beckham said he has watched soccer interest expand in the U.S. "I’ve been lucky enough to see the game evolve firsthand over the last few decades, and the growth has been incredible," said Beckham, who was knighted just six months ago.
"When I first started out, football was already global, but you could sense there was so much more potential – especially in places where the sport was still developing, "he said. "One of the biggest signs for me was the passion of the fans, even in countries where football wasn’t traditionally the number one sport. I remember traveling and seeing stadiums full of people who were just as passionate and knowledgeable as fans anywhere else in the world. That told me the appetite was there – it just needed nurturing."
Miami, where Inter Miami was established in 2020, "is a great example of that growth," Beckham said. "When we first started an MLS team (in Miami) – we had to build it from the ground up. It’s been a 12-year journey, and to play our first game earlier this month in our new stadium was a very special moment for me. It’s a moment that marks how far we’ve come but also how far the game has come in the U.S. The fans have really embraced it, and Miami’s such a vibrant, diverse city, it’s a great place for soccer to thrive."
Beckham has been helping other brands connected to the World Cup. He's starred in commercials for Verizon's match ticket giveaways and Home Depot's sweepstakes with prizes including a trip and tickets to the final, and a $10,000 Home Depot gift card.
The World Cup is special, he said, and "it’s always meant a lot to me. It’s the biggest platform in soccer, and it brings people together like nothing else."
