The Indiana Fever have the face of its franchise back in superstar Caitlin Clark, who is fully healthy and back on the hardwood after missing all but 13 games last season with various soft tissue injuries, including a nagging groin that cost her the entire second half of the season, including an unlikely playoff run by Indiana.
The Fever will open its season on Saturday against the Dallas Wings, and with the season so close, the scrutiny around Clark and the Fever is beginning to heat up. Sports reporter Jemele Hill recently covered Clark being passed by Wingsâ guard Paige Bueckers as WNBA GMsâ preferred player to build a franchise around in an anonymous survey, and previously posted about the potential of Clarkâs trademark long threes putting the Fever in a compromised position.
Many fans feel that Hill, along with other members of sports media, is treating Clark unfairly.
âDisgusted by these credentialed media personalities who are obsessed with constantly bashing and trying to tear down Caitlin. They donât even have to celebrate her, but the nonstop hate and manufactured narratives to âproveâ something are pathetic,â one fan posted on X.
âCriticism of Caitlin Clark has gone beyond normal analysis. Thereâs a noticeable difference in how sheâs talked about compared to other players in the WNBA,â someone else added.

Ultimately, Clark herself revealed that the most intense scrutiny comes from herself.
âI think people forget at the end of the day, like, I care more than all of you. Like, I want to be the best. And, you know, Iâm always analyzing my play. Iâm always, you know, trying to find ways to be better,â she said.
âAnd so I think just that part of it, and, you know, I can always say like, allow myself grace, but you always have that fire and like that hunger inside of you to like always want to be better and like youâre a perfectionist and then you get irritated when it doesnât go your way. But at the same time, like, I think thatâs what the great thing about the W is, like, itâs game to game to game.
âLike, youâre going to play 3 or 4 games a week and, you know, you always have an opportunity to turn the page and move on to the next one. So, um, just reminding myself of that and then obviously reminding myself how lucky I am to just be out there and be playing.â
