Detroit Lions season ticket holders will miss the team's international game against the New England Patriots in Munich on November 15. Fans have long awaited a marquee game, but most won't see it in Detroit.
Detroit Lions fans have been begging for a marquee international game for years, and based on the latest schedule leak, theyâre finally getting one.
Thereâs just one problem.
Most season ticket holders wonât actually get to see it in Detroit.
On Tuesday, reports surfaced that the Lions will host the reigning AFC Champion New England Patriots on Nov. 15 in Munich, Germany, as part of the NFLâs International Series. From a league-wide perspective, itâs an absolute blockbuster matchup. In fact, on paper, thereâs a legitimate argument that this could end up being one of the biggest international regular-season games the NFL has ever staged.

Sure, the Buccaneers could still be competitive, and any NFL game is technically a draw. But compared to a potential Lions vs. Patriots showdown featuring two playoff-caliber teams? Itâs a massive downgrade for fans paying premium prices.
From the NFLâs perspective, the move makes perfect sense.
Detroit has become one of the leagueâs biggest television attractions under Dan Campbell, while New England remains one of the NFLâs most recognizable brands worldwide. Put those teams in Germany, and the league instantly gets a globally marketable event.

Thatâs the frustrating part.
Fans invest thousands of dollars into season tickets expecting nine meaningful home games. Instead, theyâre losing arguably the crown jewel of the 2026 home schedule to an overseas showcase built primarily for league revenue and international expansion.
