The Los Angeles Dodgers have placed right-handed pitcher Tyler Glasnow on the injured list after he suffered back spasms.
Glasnow was pulled early from Wednesday’s game against the Houston Astros after he got his 1000th strikeout in the first inning of the game.
He went back out for the second inning, and during his warm-up, Glasnow felt something in his back that was leaving him on the injured list.
In a corresponding move, right-hander Paul Gervase was recalled from the 40-man roster onto the active roster, giving the Dodgers an arm if needed.

While not confirmed, Gervase’s time in the major leagues may be less than two days, as Blake Snell is expected to join the team on Saturday and make a start.
Snell was originally expected to make a Single-A start for the Ontario Tower Buzzers on Saturday, but in a sudden change, the lefty is in Los Angeles and will be pitching for the MLB team instead.
Now, there is additional context to the change.
With Glasnow out of the rotation, the Dodgers have the luxury of plugging in a Cy Young award winner and a true ace when healthy.
Additionally, Gervase can be a serviceable long-relief arm who can slot into low- or middling-leverage spots and eat innings to preserve the higher-leverage arms.
The Dodgers also get more time before adjusting their rotation. Justin Wrobleski, Emmet Sheehan, and Roki Sasaki need to make way when everyone is healthy.
Before Glasnow’s injury and as Snell got on the road to recovery, it seemed like the decision would come by the end of the month, though now there is some additional time being bought before the organization makes a decision.
Over nine relief appearances in 2026, Gervase has a 3.65 ERA in 12.1 innings. He has allowed six hits, five runs, and nine walks with 17 strikeouts.
The stalky righty, if he keeps pitching at this clip down in the minor league, should continue to get looks in the major leagues, hopefully for longer stints.
There will be other injuries that hit the Dodgers, and the organization clearly feels he has a role with the team as cover for any absences.
