Fast Times and Big Scores North of the Border at the 2026 Kananaskis Pro Rodeo

While the talk might be around the California run right now, rodeo is still happening all over the country. North of the border, in Alberta Canada a big rodeo in a small town just wrapped up. The Kananaskis Pro Rodeo sells out the Crowsnest Pass Sports Complex every year.

This year was no different. Some of the best cowboys and cowgirls found their way to Coleman, Alberta. Among the best was Montana bareback rider Sam Peterson who put up an 83 point ride good enough for second place. The only man better was Chett Deitz who was 85 points on Duane Kesler Championship Rodeo's 704 Sleeping Giant.

In the steer wrestling, Ryan Shuckburgh took the win after a 4.7 second run. Coy McPhee and Brendan Laye were not far behind splitting second after a pair of 4.8's.

In the team roping Brett Buss and Joey Romo II got the win after their sharp 5.5 second run. In the tie-down roping, Cooper Resch got the win with a 9.9. The breakaway roping got fast with a 2.5 at the top by Ashley Watt.

Saddle bronc rider Blain Pengelly was 86.5 points on Duane Kesler Championship Rodeo's Double Red to come out on top.

Very rarely do you see set ups where the ladies can run a barrel pattern in under 13 seconds. However, the Crownsnest Pass Sports Complex is one of those arenas. Small patterns bring their unique challenges, none of which bothered Chelsea Milan at all. She got the win with a 12.76. There were four times under that 13 second mark this year.

In the bull riding, there were four qualified rides. Among those 8 seconds were two guys tying at the top. There was sa pair of 84 point rides by Lucas Dunand on Duane Kesler Championship Rodeo's Down With The Devil and Auzyn Corr on Duane Kesler Championship Rodeo's Perlich Brothers Fallen Angel.

Every year, this is a standout rodeo for the northern cowboys and cowgirls. There will be many more rodeos up that way as we move into the summer months. This is just the start of the action north of the border.
