Former Niners Star Visiting Vikings on Wednesday
Former San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings is set to meet with a new team this week. According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, Jennings decided to meet with the Minnesota Vikings on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The loss is significant given what Jennings brought in production in 2025. The Niners wide receiver caught 55 passes for 643 yards and a career-high nine touchdowns in 2025. This came after he put up career bests in receptions (77) and yards (975) in 2024.
Most players are replaceable in what they bring in production. That said, there's something to be said for continuity, which is something the Niners may not have an abundance of next season. What the 49ers lack in continuity they chose to replace with talent and production.
Star running back Christian McCaffrey and tight end George Kittle are back along with former first round wide receiver draft pick Ricky Pearsall, but outside of that not much receiving production returns. Add in the uncertainty with wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk and the Niners needed to make significant additions. They made three in the draft and free agency.
First, the team went out and added NFL star Mike Evans and big name pass catcher Christian Kirk to their squad. The two moves seemingly solidify the top two wide receiver spots. Then the team went out and adding high upside Ole Miss Rebels receiver De'Zhaun Stribling.
In 2025, Jauan Jennings caught 55 passes for 643 yards and achieved a career-high nine touchdowns.
Jauan Jennings is meeting with the Minnesota Vikings to discuss a potential signing after his time with the San Francisco 49ers.
Jennings' departure may affect the 49ers' continuity and production, as he contributed significantly to their offense in recent seasons.

Stribling was a force in limited targets with the Rebels in 2025, but seems like a likely starter at the third receiver spot over Pearsall in time, if not immediately. It changes how we view the loss of Jennings significantly.

The Niners wide receiver room is not perfect. Evans is getting older and Kirk had the worst season of his career last season with just over eight yards per reception and less than 30 catches. Stribling has yet to prove himself and, given how Niners receiver draft picks have panned out in recent seasons, it's easy to distrust San Francisco's front office. That said, it can be argued the unit is greatly improved from a season ago.
Kirk provides more upside than any of the Niners' secondary options last season, Stribling could be an upgrade over Pearsall and Mike Evans is more of a No. 1 receiver than Jauan Jennings.
The loss of Jennings has some significance, but it is not catastrophic. The Niners will hope to have a productive year at receiver in 2026.
