After just one season with the Oregon Ducks, center Ege Demir has announced his commitment to Duquesne via the transfer portal, per his Instagram.
The 6-foot-11, 275-pound Demir came to Oregon after playing multiple seasons as a reserve in the Turkey Basketball Super League. He served as a backup with the Ducks as well, averaging just 2.2 points and 3.5 rebounds per game in limited minutes before a season-ending shoulder injury brought his time in Eugene to a close.
The Nigerian native now finds himself with the Dukes, who finished 7th in the A-10 a season ago with an 18-15 overall record. Last season, they didn't have a center average more than six minutes per game, with Demir immediately entering and providing heft on the front line.
The departure of Demir was among seven other transfer portal entrants from the Ducks program, and it left a massive vacancy at the center spot as senior Nate Bittle exhausted his eligibility. While Oregon hasn't yet added a true center via the portal, they've secured the commitment of forwards Andrew Meadow (Boise State) and Taylor Bol Bowen (Alabama), both of whom will help down low. Sean Stewart, who played some small-ball center last season, also remains on the roster.
Demir is the sixth former Duck to find a new home thus far, joining Jackson Shelstad (Louisville), Kwame Evans Jr. (Villanova), Dezdrick Lindsay (Kansas State), Jamari Phillips (Washington State), Devon Pryer (Texas-Rio Grande Valley) and JJ Frakes (Buffalo).
