Things have been very ugly in New York Mets land, something the organization will unfortunately have to deal with. Considering how bad things currently are, sitting in last place in the National League East and losing 11 straight games with a 7-15 record, it's very possible that one of those changes could be firing the manager.
According to many in New York, that's something they want to happen.
"The ax should fall on manager Carlos Mendoza, whether thatâs fair or not. Heâs overseen the last four months of gameplay across the last two seasons, and his game management certainly has been suspect.
âHis latest puzzling decision came in the bottom of the 10th on Sunday when he opted to pitch to Nico Hoerner, Chicagoâs best hitter, with one out and the winning run on third. Hoerner predictably put the ball in play â a game-winning sacrifice fly," AMNY's Joe Pantorno wrote.
However, as Pantorno touched on, whether that's fair or not doesn't necessarily matter.
What does matter, however, is players publicly backing Carlos Mendoza. I'm not here to say that Mendoza has done a good job, as everybody can tell he hasn't done what he's needed to do, but it's interesting to see players like Francisco Lindor stick up for him.
âHeâs done a fantastic job. This is not on him⊠It comes down on us. Mendyâs our guy⊠Heâs done a tremendous job, we just havenât executed,â Lindor stated.
It's possible that Lindor feels like he is letting him down, as the star shortstop simply hasn't played the type of baseball that we all expect out of him. On the flip side of that, Lindor might just be saying what's right to the public and telling David Stearns and other decision-makers something completely different. Regardless, something will probably happen in the next few days if things don't change.

Fans are urging for Carlos Mendoza's dismissal due to the Mets' poor performance, including a last-place standing and questionable game management decisions.
