A Georgia football transfer addition that was expected to help address its need for an improved pass rush suffered a knee injury that reportedly will sideline him for the entire 2026 season.
Auburn transfer outside linebacker Amaris Williams sustained a torn ACL, according to Graham Coffey of Dawgs Central, who said the injury happened near the end of Tuesdayâs practice.
Georgia athletics did not immediately respond on Wednesday night for a request for comment.
Williams was one of five transfer additions on defense, but the others were all in the secondary. Williams was seen as a potential impact newcomer because of the need the Bulldogs had on the edge.
âHe's got to be able to play within our system, understand our system, but also add value,â coach Kirby Smart said of Williams at the start of spring practices. âHe can start by taking the reps he's going to get this spring.â
Williams had two sacks last season in his second season at Auburn. Only three Bulldogs had more than that in 2025 when the Bulldogs had 20 sacks total, their lowest since 2000.
The 6-foot-3, 255-pound Fayetville, N.C., native, which Georgia lists as a junior, also had 14 tackles in a backup role last season.
Georgia will rely on returning pass rushers Quintavius Johnson and Gabe Harris (who is out for the spring). Redshirt freshman Chase Linton has come on this spring and the Bulldogs also have four-star freshman Khamari Brooks from North Oconee.
There is no spring transfer portal window this year for Georgia to try to bring in another pass rusher.
Georgia has two spring practices remaining, including Saturday's G-Day game.
