Giants Fall Behind Early as Logan Webb Struggles in Loss to Padres
The San Francisco Giants were unable to overcome an early deficit Tuesday, falling 10-5 to the San Diego Padres after a difficult start from Logan Webb set the tone.
Webb labored through four innings, surrendering six earned runs on seven hits while striking out four. A solo home run from Xander Bogaerts highlighted the damage, as consistent hard contact plagued the right-hander throughout the outing.
Though he did not issue a walk and threw 40 of his 62 pitches for strikes, Webb struggled to miss bats or limit traffic, exiting before completing five innings.
The outing continued a trend of inconsistency for Webb, who now holds an ERA north of 5.00 through his first stretch of starts this season. While his ability to pound the strike zone remains intact, opposing hitters have repeatedly capitalized, putting balls in play at a high rate and limiting his effectiveness.
Offensively, the Giants showed early life. Casey Schmitt delivered a two-run homer in the first inning to give San Francisco a quick boost. The lineup added on in the second, with Jesús Rodríguez contributing an RBI single and Jung Hoo Lee bringing in another run on a fielder’s choice.
Rodríguez continued to stand out, later launching a solo home run in the seventh inning, offering a bright spot for a Giants offense that has searched for consistency.
His recent contributions come at a crucial time, particularly as the team integrates him within the lineup, where he collected his first major league hit in the contest.
The Giants were without , who was held out due to minor soreness. The absence of one of the club’s more reliable bats further underscored the lineup’s uneven production.

San Francisco’s bullpen was unable to stabilize the game after Webb’s exit. JT Brubaker allowed a run while working through traffic in his inning of relief, issuing two walks alongside two hits.
Ryan Borucki followed with a run allowed in the sixth, and Gregory Santos surrendered two more over his two innings of work as the Padres extended their lead.
Despite a handful of offensive flashes, the Giants were unable to mount a sustained comeback after Rodríguez’s homer. The loss drops San Francisco to 14-22 on the season, including an 8-10 mark at home.
With the series now even, the Giants will turn to Adrian Houser in the finale, while the Padres are expected to counter with knuckleballer Matt Waldron.
