The Cleveland Guardians have routinely been a solid team in recent years, but there has been a limit to how far this team can actually go due to one issue.
That issue is very obviously the team's payroll. Without the ability to spend so lavishly on top-tier stars that hit the open market, the ceiling of this Guardians team is capped every year.
So, with the trade rumors on 240-homer slugger Rafael Devers beginning to heat up with the struggles of the San Francisco Giants, it should come as no surprise what Bleacher Report's Zachary D. RymerĀ called out as the Guardians' odds to swing a deal for Devers.
"The Guardians just got Patrick Bailey in a trade with the Giants, but he's no real cure for their perpetually light-hitting offense," Rymer writes. "Since they can't even bring themselves to spend $100 million on payroll, this just isn't happening."
Trade rumors suggest the Cleveland Guardians are interested in acquiring Rafael Devers, a slugger with 240 home runs.
The Guardians' limited payroll restricts their ability to sign top-tier players, capping the team's potential each season.

As has been the case for some time now, the Guardians are not going to break open the bank to spend big on the roster. Devers, who's in the middle of a $313.5 million deal, is very much an unrealistic trade target for Cleveland.
The Guardians might be sitting atop the AL Central this season and have a chance to go on a run into October.
In normal circumstances, it wouldn't be a surprise if this Guardians team were to spend at the trade deadline to try and become serious World Series contenders.
However, the team's insistence on keeping payroll down means that most players will be off the table. And Devers, a slugger who would provide the power bat the Guardians need, would've been a great fit.
Guardians fans know, though, that such a deal has effectively no chance of happening. It would take a massive change in roster-building philosophy from the Guardians for someone like Devers to come to Cleveland in a trade.
This is an unfortunate reality for Guardians fans that they've been forced to live with. While there's no telling if this team would've gone on a run had they been spending more money, it's hard not to imagine these teams having more success if they spent more.
