Pottsville’s Alexa Giuffre highlighted the league action when she won gold in four events — the 100- and 200-meter hurdles as well as the long jump and triple jump.
“I’ve been doing good with the hurdles and I want to wait until districts and states to peak,” Giuffre said. “I’ve been jumping well and getting better every meet.”
Schuylkill Haven’s Ethan Kline won gold medals in the boys shot put with a throw of 53 feet, 11 inches, as well as the discus with a throw of 149 feet, 11 inches.
“It’s been a slow progression to fix my technique piece by piece and build it up and keep progressing one throw at a time,” Kline said. “It helps to not get frustrated when you see one positive thing happen and they just keep coming.”
North Schuylkill’s Luke Miller showed out with a gold medal in the 100-meter run in 10.67 seconds and was a part of the gold medal winning 400-meter relay team with a time of 42.62 seconds. He also placed second in the 200-meter run in 21.75 seconds.
“I just want to trust my race, take them one at a time and trust my race because (Chase) Guers is a great runner and we always go at it with each other,” Miller said. “I appreciate that and we’re both really good runners.”
North Schuylkill’s Genevieve Dando also won two gold medals in the 1600-meter run in 5:32.25 as well as the 3200-meter run in 12:28.23.
“I’m more of a distance runner naturally because I can’t sprint for my life,” Dando said. “This year has been tougher competition than last year and I hope to hit my goal of low five or sub five at states and districts.”
