Ticket prices for the 2026 World Cup became one of the biggest talking points surrounding the tournament in recent months across football and social media discussions.
Supporters had already complained when FIFA initially opened ticket sales, with many arguing that attending matches became increasingly unrealistic because of the enormous prices attached to seats.
After games sold out, FIFA allowed official ticket resales through its platform, which is legal in the United States and pushed the prices even higher than their original values.

FIFA may generate extraordinary revenue through its official resale platform for the 2026 World Cup final scheduled for 19 July because of the massive prices attached to available seats.
The governing body receives 15% from both the buyer and the seller during each transaction completed through the official resale marketplace connected to the tournament.
Currently, there are 739 tickets available for the World Cup final through FIFA’s official platform, with prices varying enormously depending on seating location and demand.
A survey conducted by HITC estimated FIFA could earn more than $30 million from those resale transactions alone if every currently listed ticket eventually gets purchased before the final.
The calculation used a simple average model based on the midpoint between the minimum and maximum prices available within each stadium section listed on the platform.
The cheapest ticket costs around $8,965, while the most expensive tickets in the survey exceeded $1.3 million.
In that context, it is important to mention that, to reduce the possibility of distorted conclusions, the survey deliberately ignored unusually speculative listings carrying values significantly above comparable seats in the same areas of the stadium.
That included extreme examples, such as one ticket reportedly listed for over $11 million, which would dramatically increase the average price without realistically reflecting broader market behaviour.
However, even after excluding those outlier values, the remaining numbers still highlighted the extraordinary sums potentially surrounding the tournament’s most anticipated match next summer.
