MORRISTOWN, N.J. – When you go against the guy with the most fights in UFC history, there's a lot of material to study ahead of time.
Jared Gordon doesn't expect Jim Miller to break out any new tricks when they face off Saturday at UFC 328 at Prudential Center in Newark. Gordon (21-8 MMA, 9-7 UFC) acknowledged Miller (38-19 MMA, 27-18 UFC) as a legend but predicted there would not be jarring advancements that could catch him off guard.
"I don't think his game plan is going to change from his other fights," Gordon told MMA Junkie and other reporters at a pre-fight news conference Wednesday. "I think he's going to come out and do what he normally does. That's what I'm expecting. I think he's going to come out hard. He's in Jersey. He's in Newark. He's in his home state. I don't know how many more fights he's going to fight."
Miller, 42, has competed 46 times under the UFC banner. He debuted at UFC 89 in October 2008. His longevity in the world's most prominent mixed martial arts organization is truly unmatched.
Much has remained the same for Miller, but recent years have been a bit different outside the cage. He revealed in the lead up to this bout that his 14-year-old son recently won a battle against cancer. While Gordon was touched by the story, he said he'll block that all out Saturday.
"I know he's been through some tough times recently," Gordon said. "So he wants to get the win for his family. But like I said before, that doesn't matter. On Saturday, I don't care about your family. I have my own family. I have a daughter who needs me. I'm expecting the best Jim, and I know that I'll come out on top. ... Jim's a great name, legend of the sport, most UFC wins, most UFC fights. But come Saturday night, he's just another guy."
