The New York Jets own four picks inside the top 45 selections of this year's NFL Draft. In Round 1, they own the 2nd and 16th picks, and in Round 2, they pick at 33rd and 44th overall.
With those picks, the Jets are sure to improve both side of the ball, with edge rusher and wide receiver two of the clearest needs for this team. But a defensive back is also in play for the Jets, and potentially earlier than some may think.
According to Connor Hughes of SNY, the Jets are rumored to be open to selecting a top cornerback at No. 16 instead of a wide receiver if one of the top three options is off the board. Specifically, Hughes named Tennessee CB Colton Hood as a name to watch.
"If the top three receivers are off the board at No. 16, the Jets could pivot off the position there, electing to target a wideout in the backend of the first or at No. 33 instead," Hughes reports. "Would keep an eye on CB Colton Hood in this scenario. He's rising up boards and fits the Aaron Glenn DB mold perfectly."
In this scenario, the Jets would be on the clock with Carnell Tate, Makai Lemon, and Jordyn Tyson going off the board earlier in the draft.
While they have a serious interest in Omar Cooper Jr., the more likely outcome for the Jets would be taking him with the 33rd pick and going with a different player at the 16th pick.

Hughes is noting that Hood, the Tennessee cornerback, could be in play. Jermod McCoy is also a Tennessee cornerback, but there have been some concerns about his injury history, despite his impressive 40-yard time in the lead-up to the draft.
Colton Hood is a cornerback from Tennessee, rumored to be a potential selection for the Jets at No. 16 if top wide receiver options are unavailable.
The Jets have four picks in the top 45 selections: 2nd and 16th in Round 1, and 33rd and 44th in Round 2.
The Jets are focusing on improving their edge rusher and wide receiver positions, but are also considering a defensive back earlier than expected.

But McCoy might go early as well, and Hood could be the 16th pick to get Aaron Glenn and the Jets defense a playmaking cornerback after not securing a single interception last year.
This would be an interesting pivot, as Hood has been more of a late-first-rounder in the weeks leading up to the draft. But the buzz is increasing for Hood, and the Jets could take the Tennessee cornerback 16th overall, and it wouldn't be too big of a surprise.
