One of the big changes planned for the 2027 season is 120-man fields for Signature Events, with cuts returning at the halfway point.
That is definitely a step in the right direction, but what does Spieth think about it?
After finishing his second round on Friday in Miami, the three-time major champion was asked to share his opinion on 72-player fields with no cuts.
âI mean, if youâre asking me personally, like, if youâre asking me whatâs best for the PGA TOUR, thatâs probably a different answer,â Spieth replied.

*â*But as a player in that, why wouldnât that be better? You know. But I donât know if thatâs whatâs going to be best or whatâs going to happen in the future. And thatâs not necessarily for the players to decide, it will be collaborating with the networks and the fans and the players, so it will be kind of a group effort.
*â*I think theyâre trying to figure that out. But I mean, as a player, you know, obviously youâre playing faster, thereâs less people in the field, so itâs technically, you know, obviously the fieldâs elite, but if you just added more people thatâs more players.
âSo, yes and no, depending upon how youâre asking it.â
The main problem with no-cut events is that there is zero jeopardy.
With those levels of safety and security, it goes without saying that a certain level of excitement is taken away from tournaments.
All elite level sports need some kind of jeopardy baked into their model in order for them to flourish.
