Florida baseball head coach Kevin OâSullivan pointed to a familiar script after Florida's series-deciding 5-1 loss against Texas A&M on Sunday.
The Gators' offense couldn't figure things out, despite seeing pitchers they'd already faced earlier in the series, and defensive mistakes let valuable runs cross against them. "Disappointing" was the word O'Sullivan found himself returning to throughout his post-game press conference. Closer Josh Whritenour admitted that "everything sucks right now" when describing the emotion in the dugout.
Looking ahead, Florida's schedule doesn't get much easier. The amount of parity in the SEC this year means every series will be a battle. The good news is Florida doesn't have a midweek game this week, giving the team time to reset and rest ahead of a three-game set at Oklahoma.
"I thought Russ was just hanging on, to be honest with you. I looked up on the board, he had 80 pitches, I think, through four, and their guy had less than 40. I think that pretty much tells the difference in the starts. Tried to get an inning out of Coop (Walls), obviously couldn't do that, and Josh (Whritenour) came in and did an outstanding job.
"Pretty typical of the way we've been losing games this year. We had an error, led to a run; we bobbled the ball in left, led to a run; we had an 0-2 count to start an inning, and didn't bounce a change-up. Now you get a hit, he scores. We got thrown out at the plate in the eighth, down three. Obviously, that run doesn't really matter.
"We got beat by a fastball for five innings with Lyons and Freshcorn, two pitchers that we had seen this weekend. And we had two backwards Ks in key spots on fastballs. We had a leadoff walk and went down looking on a fastball, and then we had runners on first and second and went down looking on another fastball on two key spots. So that pretty much sums it up, and it's disappointing."
Florida lost to Texas A&M with a final score of 5-1.
Kevin O'Sullivan described the loss as 'disappointing' and noted the team's struggles with offense and defense.
Florida's upcoming schedule includes a challenging three-game series against Oklahoma, with no midweek game to prepare.
Closer Josh Whritenour expressed that 'everything sucks right now,' reflecting the team's emotions after the loss.

"I mean, we gave up five runs on a Sunday, and we scored one run. So... and like I said, we got beat by a fastball in the last five innings. There were no surprises. It's the second time this weekend, like I said, we saw both pitchers."
"Yeah, yeah. I think Schwarz is still dealing with the oblique a little bit. As far as Ethan (Surowiec), his thumb, he injured it yesterday, but he grinded through it. Obviously, Lawson, he's just dealing with some allergy stuff and some sinus stuff that's been ongoing for a bit."
"Yeah, I mean, Caden (McDonald) had a really good weekend. I thought Landon (Stripling) probably had the best at-bats of anybody all day today. So, disappointing."
"It was probably not the right decision. We had a Strip coming up, winds blowing out to right. Maybe he runs into one and ties up the ballgame at that point. In that situation, if you're gonna tag, you gotta be 100% sure you can make it, and you gotta know the arm strength of the outfielder. Obviously, he's got a really good arm."
"I'm not looking at anything favorable, honestly. I'm just worried about our team and how we can improve. I'm not looking at it any other way. I'll watch Oklahoma. They're going to be a handful. They can pitch, they can play defense and they run the bases extremely aggressively. So, we'll have a lot of work to do this week to prepare for them."
"You can look at it one of two ways. You can have a midweek and get right back out there and play, or just prepare for Oklahoma. I don't have one preference one way or the other right now, to be honest with you. I'm just disappointed in the fact that we only had four hits over the last five innings on fastballs."
"(Cash) Strayer, maybe (he'll return) next weekend. If not, I'm sure Kentucky, and I think that's probably what we're shooting for for Jackson, too."
"I felt good. I knew coming into today that I was probably going to be extended since I was on a long rest, and obviously, we used some of our guys yesterday. Towards the middle of the game, I knew I pretty much had to start getting going.
"It was my longest outing of my career so far. I just want to give the team the best chance to win, and I thought I did a pretty good job at that. I'll be in that scenario probably again, and I'm looking forward to it."
"Obviously, it's frustrating. Nobody wants to drop back-to-back series or a series at all. Coming into today, we were excited and wanted to catch a series today. But obviously, things didn't go our way. It's frustrating for sure."
"I wouldn't say too much changes. I work well at the top of the zone, and with a team like this, they hit balls at the top of the zone pretty well. I knew I had to be more, not careful but precise. My misses couldn't be too big. I had to stick to my approach that I usually do. I knew I had to execute all my pitches to the best of my ability."
"Everything sucks right now. It's a hard time to be in. But we still have a season ahead of us that we have to look forward to. Weâve got to work on some things, flush some things, learn from everything, take it with a grain of salt and move on.
"Weâve got to look forward to Oklahoma."
