Kimberly tops in baseball, girls soccer in latest area rankings
Here is the second edition of the Post-Crescent high school rankings of top softball, baseball and girls soccer teams in the Appleton area. Records are through May 9.
1, Fox Valley Lutheran: The Foxes are 15-2 overall and still atop the Bay Conference at 11-1. They remain at No. 1 despite losses to Mosinee and Seymour this past week. FVL plays at home against Kimberly on May 11 and at Xavier on May 12.
2, Hortonville: The Polar Bears bounce back from a 6-5 loss to Stevens Point with a 17-6 dismantling of Arrowhead this week. Team plays at Appleton East on May 12 and at Fond du Lac on May 14 before a home date with Appleton North on May 15.
3, Seymour: The Thunder gets a 2-1 victory over Fox Valley Lutheran and moves up a spot in the rankings. Adde Smith leads the team with a .545 average with six home runs and 23 RBIs. Seymour hosts a doubleheader against Green Bay West/East on May 12 before a matchup with Xavier on May 14.

4, Appleton North: The Lightning vaults into the top 5 and has won eight of its last nine games. Team hosts Kaukauna on May 12 and Kimberly on May 14.
5, Brillion: The Lions are 14-4 overall and getting a big lift from sophomore Jocelyn Tamm (7-1 overall, 2.25 ERA). Team plays at Reedsville on May 11 and at home against Sheboygan Falls/Kohler on May 12.
Also: Kimberly, Freedom, Wrightstown.

1, Kimberly: The Papermakers go 4-1 this past week including a 3-2 win over Appleton North and 1-0 victory over Hortonville. Team is 11-2 overall and 10-1 in FVA play. Papermakers play at home against Fond du Lac on May 12 and at Appleton North on May 14.
The latest area rankings show Kimberly at the top for both baseball and girls soccer.
Fox Valley Lutheran has a record of 15-2 overall and is 11-1 in the Bay Conference.

2, Hortonville: The Polar Bears are 15-3 overall and 8-3 in the FVA. Derek Baumbach leads the team with a .327 average. Team plays at Appleton East on May 12 and at Fond du Lac on May 14.
3, Brillion: Lions move up to No. 3 and have won 16 consecutive games. Team is 17-2 overall and 10-0 in the Eastern Wisconsin Conference. Joe Shimek is batting .500 with 38 runs scored and 11 RBI.
4, Appleton North: Lightning is 9-4 overall and 7-3 in the FVA but has lost three of its last four. Team has home games against Kaukauna (May 12) and Kimberly (May 14) this week.
5, Xavier: Hawks went 3-1 last week with wins over Fox Valley Lutheran (twice) and Wautoma and are 9-3 overall and 8-1 in the Bay. Team plays at home against Winneconne on May 12 and at Winneconne on May 14.
Also: Neenah, Kaukauna, St. Mary Catholic, Little Chute, Winneconne.
1, Kimberly: The Papermakers are 10-1 overall and strengthened their hold atop the area after a 3-2 victory over Appleton North this past week. Team plays at Appleton West on May 12 and at home against Oshkosh West on May 14.
2, Appleton North: Lightning stays at No. 2 after loss to Kimberly. North is 12-2 overall and plays at De Pere on May 11 and home against Hortonville on May 12.
3, Xavier: The Hawks are 12-0 overall and 3-0 in the Bay Conference. Team is coming off a key 3-1 victory over Winneconne on May 5 and plays at Green Bay East on May 14.
4, Winneconne: The Wolves are 10-1 overall and 4-1 in the Bay. Team has key conference games at New London on May 12 and at Seymour on May 14. Sophomore keeper Emery Sommers leads the team with 19 saves.
5, Seymour: Thunder enters the top 5 and is 3-0-2 over the last five games. Seymour is 7-3-2 overall and 4-0-1 in the Bay and plays at home against Winneconne on May 14.
