The Chicago Bears are in the middle of their offseason program, which is set to kick into high gear later this month for OTAs and veteran minicamp in June. But the work has been ongoing for the players, including second-year wide receiver Luther Burden III, who documented his offseason.
Burden, who was selected in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft, showcased his impressive potential as a downfield weapon in just one year with head coach Ben Johnson. Burden totaled 47 catches on 60 targets for 652 yards and two touchdowns. Burden is also the reason why the Bears were able to trade DJ Moore.
Burden has been hard at work this offseason, and he shared a roughly 20-minute video that brought fans behind-the-scenes of his offseason, which included workout sessions at Northwestern (with tight end Colston Loveland) and USC (with quarterback Caleb Williams, Loveland and receivers Rome Odunze and Jahdae Walker).
Burden showcased his playmaking ability in a scaled back role last season amid an array of weapons also featuring Odunze, Moore, Loveland and Cole Kmet. Now, heading into Year 2, it sounds like Burden will be a focal point in the passing game as Johnson looks to get the ball into his playmaker's hands as much as possible.
“[Luther] is exactly what we thought we were getting out of the draft last year," Johnson said, via CHGO. "He is a dynamic playmaker. He’s got some of the best run after catch in the game right now. I really believe that. We need to continue to get the ball in his hands as often as we possibly can."
In his rookie season, Luther Burden III recorded 47 catches on 60 targets for 652 yards and two touchdowns.
Luther Burden III trained with tight end Colston Loveland at Northwestern and quarterback Caleb Williams at USC, among others.
Heading into his second year, Luther Burden III is expected to be a focal point in the Bears' passing game under head coach Ben Johnson.
