Man Utd executives give backing to Carrick appointment

Michael Carrick has won the support of Manchester United's executives with the current interim boss expected to be made permanent manager according to reports.

The former midfielder took over following the sacking of Ruben Amorim early in January, with his first game in charge a 2-0 win over crosstown rivals Manchester City.

United had been on course for some kind of European football under Amorim but Carrick's arrival has seen the Red Devils qualify for a Champions League return with games left to spare. A win against Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford on Sunday will also guarantee third place in the table after having finished 8th and 15th in the previous two campaigns.

According to journalist Laurie Whitwell of The Athletic, Carrick's work has convinced the club's chief executive Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox of his ability. However, the ultimate decision will be made by co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

United will be hoping to get their new manager in place soon ahead of what could be a big summer for the club in the transfer window. Several new signings need to be made and there will be optimism over the recruitment policy following the success of arrivals Matheus Cunha, , , and .
