May 11—ROCHESTER — Flora Bolster shot a 93 in the Mayo girls golf team's first meet of the season, last month.
It's clear she doesn't like the 90s.
In nine meets since that time, Bolster hasn't shot anything over 81. In seven of those nine meets, she's shot in the 70s, a trend she continued Monday. Bolster, a standout senior for the Spartans, fired a 79 at the Rochester Golf & Country Club to share medalist honors at the All-City Invitational.
The senior — long one of Rochester's top high school players — shared medalist honors in her final All-City meet with one of the city's top up-and-coming golfers, Century freshman Charlotte Perry.
Perry's 79 is her best round of the season and brought her team-best season scoring average down into the 80s, from 90.63 when the day started to 89.3 per 18 holes.
Perry had 10 pars and a birdie on her way to 79, while Mayo's Bolster carded seven pars and two birdies — both on the back nine, including one on the 114-yard, par-3 14th hole.
Bolster's strong round helped Mayo comfortably win the team championship, with a score of 339. That was good for a 22-shot win over runner-up Lourdes (361), which was led by junior Paige Moeschler's round of 82.
Mayo's winning score was rounded out by sophomore Dylan Raukar (81), freshman Aubrey Evenson (89) and freshman Sloane Bolster (90).
Led by Perry, Century placed third (369). John Marshall finished fourth (385). The Rockets were led by junior Ashtyn Krenke, who made three birdies in her round of 85.
To say Brennan Weckwerth's senior season is going well is a vast understatement.
The Rochester Century golfer has played 11 rounds this season. All of them have been in the 60s or 70s, and aside from an early-season 79, he has finished every round he has played with a 74 or better.
The Panthers standout one-upped himself on Monday, as the lone player in the field to break par and the lone player to break 70. Weckwerth's 1-under-par 69 gave him a four-shot cushion for medalist honors at the Rochester All-City Invitational at the Rochester Golf & Country Club. More importantly, Weckwerth's strong performance helped the Panthers win the team title, shooting a 303, good for a five-shot victory over runner-up Lourdes.
Lourdes senior Owen Hoehn was the individual runner-up. He shot a 3-over-par 73, a round that included four birdies.
Weckwerth was consistent and outstanding throughout his round. He finished with three birdies, 13 pars and just two bogeys — both on challenging par-3s — to card his first round in the 60s this season. Through 11 meets, he now has the best scoring average in southeastern Minnesota, at 72.91 per 18 holes.
He birdied a pair of par-4s (the 350-yard hole No. 1 and the 345-yard hole No. 13) and one par-5 (the 540-yard sixth hole).
Samuel Mohr (75), Boston Collins (78) and Vance Hansen (81) rounded out Century's scoring.
Flora Bolster and Charlotte Perry both shot a score of 79 at the All-City Invitational.
Flora Bolster has consistently improved, shooting no higher than 81 in her last nine meets, with seven rounds in the 70s.
Charlotte Perry's season scoring average was 90.63 before the All-City meet, which improved to 89.3 after her performance.
The All-City golf championship was held at the Rochester Golf & Country Club.
