BYESVILLE −Meadowbrook head coach Doug Pfeffer wanted his squad to make a statement in their postseason debut, and the Colts delivered a loud one.
Behind a powerful dual-threat performance from senior Addy Sichina and a perfect night from freshman Addie Schultice, the No. 3 seeded Colts began their quest for a fourth consecutive regional appearance with a dominant 17-1 romp over No. 13 Indian Creek in an OHSAA Division IV Eastern District quarterfinal matchup on Tuesday, May 12.
The victory improves Meadowbrook to 19-6 on the season and moves them one step closer to their perennial goal of another deep postseason run.
Meadowbrook wasted little time seizing control on their home field, jumping out to a 9-0 lead after just three innings of play. The tone was set in the very first frame, not just with the bats, but with a defensive gem. Junior third baseman Natalee Norman ignited the dugout with a spectacular diving catch that turned into a double play that robbed Indian Creek of any early momentum.
"We came out fast with the bats, Sich (Addy Sichina) pitched great, and we played great defense starting in the first inning with a great diving catch from Natalee," Coach Pfeffer noted.
The offense followed Norman's lead immediately, by plating four runs in the opening frame, capped by a towering blast over the center-field fence off the bat of Sichina to quickly seize control.
The Colts' lineup was relentless, banging out 13 hits in the shortened five-inning contest. While SIchina was clinical in the circle−allowing just one run on two hits with four strikeouts over five innings−she was equally lethal at the plate. The senior standout finished 3-for-4 with a pair of solo home runs and a single with two RBIs.

She wasn't alone in the hit parade for the Colts. Freshman Addie Schultice turned in a perfect 3-for-3 effort, finishing just a home run short of the cycle with a triple, a double, a single and three RBIs. Senior Sommer Ginn provided reinforcement, collecting three singles and a team-high four RBIs, while Norman added two singles to the tally.
"We really drove the ball well tonight; I told the girls to just hit line drives and the ball will go," Pfeffer said. Sich hit two out to complete a very big night for her."
While the opening-round win was decisive, it was the business-like approach of the Colts that stood out. For a roster filled with multi-sport athletes, the pressure of OHSAA postseason play is familiar territory.
"These girls know the drill, not only from success with three straight trips to regionals in softball," Pfeffer said of his team's postseason experience. "Most of these girls have also played in regional and state volleyball. They have been there, done that on the big stage.
That "Big Stage" experience will be vital as the stakes rise.
Meadowbrook sophomore Bella Eubanks (11) slides safely into third base during the Colts 17-1, five inning victory in an OHSAA Division IV Eastern District quarterfinal matchup with Indian Creek on Tuesday, May 12, 2026.
"On your home field you want to come out and make a statement," Pfeffer added. "It's step one in the postseason, and everybody is 0-0. We were able to do that tonight and get off to a good start."
The road to the regionals continues next week. By virtue of Tuesday's victory, No. 3 Meadowbrook advances to the Division IV Eastern District semifinals on Monday, May 18, where they will host No. 5 seed West Holmes at 5 p.m.
