The heat is ramping up on Carlos Mendoza.
The Mets’ manager, in his third season, is firmly on the hot seat as his team spiraled to a historic 11th straight loss Sunday, a 2-1 defeat in Chicago.
And everyone, even opponents, are piling on.
“I think that Carlos Mendoza may want to update that LinkedIn page,” Cole Wright, the host of the Cubs postgame show on Marquee Sports Network, quipped moments after the Cubs completed the three-game sweep . “Former major-league manager, not great at managing late game situaitons.”
It’s been that bad for Mendoza, who also watched his Mets collapse in epic fashion over the final month of the season last year to miss the playoffs.
This season has been even more puzzling. Every move, it seems, that Mendoza makes backfires. On Saturday, he pulled ace Freddy Peralta in the sixth inning on a 1-1 game. Brooks Raley then surrendered a decisive three-run home run on the first pitch he threw.
On Sunday, Mendoza decided to start bullpen arm Tobias Myers to then go to David Peterson — who was scheduled to start. The move mostly worked out, only to see Devin Williams blow a save in the ninth inning.
In extras, Mendoza elected not to walk Cubs’ leadoff hitter Nico Hoerner with first base open and the winning run on third base. Hoerner, who torched the Mets all weekend, promplty delivered the game-winning sacrifice fly to right.
Carlos Mendoza is under pressure due to the Mets' historic 11-game losing streak, which has raised concerns about his management skills.
Cole Wright joked that Carlos Mendoza might want to update his LinkedIn page, implying his future as a manager is uncertain after the team's poor performance.
The Mets lost 2-1 to the Cubs, marking their 11th straight loss and completing a three-game sweep by Chicago.
